Founded in 1960 by William (Bill) and Juanita Thurman, Sr., Lazy Acres Angus was a passion for Bill and family. Bill grew up on the farm and could not recall a time without some type of cows roaming around. Rumor has it that Bill had three ''LAZY'' boys (Billy, Danny and John) and a daughter (Kay) and thus the inspiration for the farm name. With a full time job at Dupont, tobacco, and cows one would have to wonder how you fit time in to be lazy, but that is the story. Four cows and one bull purchased from the French's in Eden, NC created the nucleus of the herd today. Cattle would later be added from Jorgensen Land and Cattle, Barksdale, Mengs, VanDyke, Hyline, and Daltons on the Sycamore. Bill enjoyed the cattle, but he truly appreciated the friendships and family memories created while working with them. Memories from the show circuit in the 1970's and early 80's as his boys carried cattle all over the U.S. and later shared his passion with his grandchildren as they did the same in the 90's and early 2000's. Bill passed away in 2001, but his work ethic and passion lives on with his family.
